Aziza Atta

Aziza Atta is a Ghanaian and English-qualified corporate and commercial lawyer with over 27 years of international experience. She advises financial institutions, investors, technology companies and growth businesses on complex corporate, financing, regulatory and investment matters across Africa and international markets.

Her practice focuses on corporate and financial structuring, private capital and investment funds, fintech and financial-services regulation, venture and growth capital, corporate governance, and non-interest banking and finance. She has particular experience helping businesses and investors navigate the legal, regulatory and institutional requirements for market entry, capital raising, investment and cross-border growth.

Aziza has an active fintech and financial-services practice in Ghana, advising technology-driven financial businesses on regulatory strategy, product and business-model structuring, engagement with the Bank of Ghana, market entry, and the development and launch of innovative financial products. Her work includes advising on digital-finance and non-interest banking propositions within Ghana’s evolving regulatory landscape.

Her broader work at the intersection of capital, regulation and institutional development includes contributing to Africa as a Jurisdiction for the Domiciliation of Investment Vehicles, a Mastercard Foundation and MEDA-commissioned study examining African investment ecosystems and the mobilisation of private capital.

Earlier in her career, Aziza practised with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Norton Rose Fulbright, advising on sophisticated international financing and capital-markets transactions. Her experience includes advising leading global financial institutions, including Barclays Capital, Nomura International, Société Générale and BNP Paribas.

She was also a member of the UK HMRC Technical Group on Alternative Finance, contributing to industry engagement on the development of the UK’s alternative-finance legislative framework.

Aziza holds an LL.B. from the University of Manchester and an LL.M. from University College London (UCL) and is qualified to practise in England & Wales and Ghana. She speaks English, German, French and Spanish.
